PHOTOGRAPHERS: A WORD OF CAUTION

Choosing the right hosting service is key in ensuring the success of your photography business. Here are a few
things to watch out for in some new, cut-rate services:
|
|
Commission on revenue, not earnings
15% is the usual commission. But 15% of what? Here's a quick grid that compares how
commission on revenue vs. earnings impacts your bottom line:

** Our commission is between 15% and 10%, depending on period earnings. See FAQ for details.
So your take-home amount from just this $100 order is $5.50 more when commission is taken off earnings instead of revenue. Multiply
this by several orders per month and the difference quickly adds up.

Production time
Order fulfillment should never take more than a day or two for prints, but some services take up to 10 business days
to ship. This is unacceptable since your customers expect the same quick turnaround they get from Amazon, Netflix and other
online retailers.
|
|
High shipping prices
Look for pricing based on product weight, not order total. Our shipping price for (5) 5x7 prints is about $2.15 (first class mail).
Some services charge shipping based on order total, and the same set of prints can cost $15 to ship if the order is over $100.
Your customers will not appreciate this.
|
|
No shipping options
Your customers should have an array of shipping methods available, from economic First Class mail, all the
way up to Next Day (overnight) service. Not all services feature such flexibility so be sure to ask.
|
|
Email attachments instead of digital downloads
These days tech-savvy customers want to download their digital files immediately. Waiting for an email with files attached
is cumbersome. And with the limits many service providers place on attachment size they are often rejected or stripped of the files. Very frustrating!
